Yes, programs are designed for students to be able to work full time, with flexible, part-time schedules. Some programs may have in-person, synchronous aspects that are scheduled in advance.
All programs are either 100% online or blended delivery with some in-person aspects. Information for the format of each course can be found in the program’s information page, under the ‘schedule’ tab.
All programs are either 2.5 years, or 2 years and 1 term. Courses are 13 weeks each, with summer courses being 6.5 weeks. Courses must be taken in sequential order to each other.
No, part-time programs are not eligible for government financial aid, scholarships, or bursaries. Some school districts may provide financial assistance for employees receiving advanced degrees at their discretion.
Many programs have a graduation paper or project at the end of the program; however, this varies by program. Exact information for whether there is a final project or thesis can be found in the program’s information page, under the ‘schedule’ tab.
No, these programs do not provide a teaching certificate upon completion.
All programs require a 4-year undergraduate degree with sufficient standing (an average within the B+ range (76% at UBC) in all senior coursework), or equivalent. Preference will be given to those with one to two year/s of teaching experience; or equivalent teaching engagement with schools, local or international communities, and other related activities, and those with demonstrated professional experience in this area of study.
If applicants do not meet those requirement’s they are still encouraged to apply. When applying please include reasons why you may not meet the above requirements, as well as outlining your reasons and professional goals for enrolling in this MEd in a brief statement of intent which will be reviewed by a committee for special admission cases.
