Leverage generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) to support your K-12 learners

Artificial intelligence is transforming education, offering new ways to enhance teaching and learning. Understanding and leveraging AI in K-12 classrooms is crucial for educators to prepare students for a future shaped by this powerful technology, but it can be confusing to know where to start.

This program is designed to equip K to 12 teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to integrate generative AI into their practice and classrooms effectively. Participants will examine the potential of AI tools to enhance teaching and learning while addressing the ethical implications and challenges associated with their use. This program will empower teachers to harness the power of generative AI by allowing them to explore and experiment with different AI applications to create more engaging, personalized, and effective learning environments for their students.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the basics about how generative artificial intelligence works
  • Examine ways to use Gen AI as an educator to support teaching and learning
  • Examine student use of Gen AI – the pros and the cons
  • Discuss Gen AI policies – international, national, provincial, district and school

There will be 7 online synchronous sessions held from 4:30-6:00pm PT on the below dates.

Facilitator

Cari Wilson

Cari Wilson is the District Vice Principal of Innovation and Technology with West Vancouver Schools. With a Masters in Educational Technology, Cari has over 25 years of experience in K to 12 classrooms, much of that in a 1:1 or BYOD environment. In addition, Cari is a recipient of the 2024 Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, an Apple Distinguished Educator and a Google for Education Trainer. For the past few years, Cari has spent a great deal of time studying and presenting on the promises and pitfalls of Gen AI in education. Cari enjoys finding innovative and engaging ways to help teachers and students use technology to enhance learning.
