Séjour en plein air à Cheakamus is a 3-day summer retreat designed for French teachers that will be offered for the first time at the Cheakamus Centre, an environmental education facility located near Squamish, BC. This retreat will focus on immersing teachers in French language, culture, and experiential second language teaching methodologies. In addition, participants will have opportunities to deepen their understanding of current priorities in our provincial curriculum, including the thoughtful integration of local indigenous cultural knowledge and the advancement of environmental learning and stewardship.

This retreat will be particularly valuable to French Immersion and Core French teachers who wish to enhance their linguistic, cultural and pedagogical competencies. Participants will have opportunities to improve their French language skills, learn practical, innovative new teaching ideas, and enjoy the many outdoor activities available at Cheakamus Centre, including hiking through forested nature trails, canoeing, and campfire songs – tout en français!

The cost of the program includes all professional development seminars, outdoor activities, a welcome wine and cheese reception, daily meals (prepared by the Cheakamus Centre’s Culinary team using delicious, sustainable, local products), and cozy, rustic cabin accommodations. Registration for this retreat is limited to 30 participants.
