Mental Health Literacy

Trainer of Trainers Institutes 2021: Focus on Implementation (School, District, Community)

Who can benefit from this Institute?

  • Teacher-leaders, district-leaders, counsellors and others who seek to identify students at risk of mental health problems or mental disorders as early as possible and link those in need to appropriate services in and out of the school setting.
  • Participants will have attended a previous mental health literacy workshop* or institute and/or have a strong background in school-based mental health education.

*Mental health literacy modules are freely available on teachmentalhealth.org/learn.

Objectives

  • review and update understanding about mental health literacy (mental health, mental disorders, stigma reduction, effective help-seeking, critical review of media & program claims)
  • enhance critical analysis skills in interpreting reports about anxiety, stress, depression and other disorders, especially during COVID 19
  • explore how to integrate a mental health literacy curriculum across school subjects and personnel
  • strengthen systemic supports within schools, districts and communities to maximize access to care for those who need it (including pathways and barriers along the way)
  • increase understanding about implementation science and how to apply it to systemic innovation in schools, districts and communities
  • prepare to apply robust, replicable assessment tools for measuring impact
  • hear from school and district leaders about their implementation journeys, how they harnessed champions, built and sustained teams, achieved buy-in and momentum, engaged professional and community learning, lessons learned from their experiences, etc.
