UBC Education Alumni Stephen Price and the BC Early Career Teachers Association are pleased to invite you to an elementary teachers’ planning playground!

This event is designed to bring together a group of K-7 teachers who are keen to collaborate on planning the upcoming school year together and sharing those plans to benefit other teachers across BC. The majority of the time will be spent collaborating with other teachers to either divide and conquer your subject and unit plans, or team up to bounce ideas off other keen teachers at your grade level or in your area of interest. This is NOT your typical conference or seminar! This is a pilot program, and there is a lot of opportunity to shape it to meet your needs.

What will happen each day:

Each day will feature a morning coffee-hour talk on a topic useful for planning your year, such as learning design, technology integration, assessment to help you bring your planning to the “next level”.

The balance of the day will be spent in grade teams. At the beginning of the week, teams will identify their areas of shared interest and collaboratively plan instruction and assessment for those areas. Teams will be able to decide if they want to work together or split up the work. By the end of the week, the goal is to have your year planned out in much more detail than when you started and to have met some collaborators who will be implementing similar plans in the coming year that you can connect with as the year goes on.

  • 9AM-10AM: Guest speaker, workshop facilitator
  • 10AM-Noon: Collaborative planning
  • Noon-1PM: Self-catered lunch
  • 1PM-3PM Collaborative planning

What won’t happen each day?

This is not a traditional PD with sessions and speakers throughout the day talking about their practice and how you could improve yours – this event is designed for teachers looking to connect to a community who want to focus on the task at hand: planning an awesome and effective year for their classes.

How do I know this is for me?

If you enjoy collaborative planning, want to connect with teachers in other schools and bring together the best ideas from everyone’s practice, this is a great, informal and inexpensive event to do this in. This event works well for teachers of all experience levels and is especially useful for those assigned to a new grade this year.
